The renovation suburb
Mermaid Waters is a suburb of good houses being made better. Solid brick and block homes from the seventies and eighties, on canals and lakes, going through their second or third renovation.
Which means the pool fence is usually part of something bigger. A new deck, a resurfaced pool, a landscaping job, a rear extension. The fence is rarely the whole project and it should not be quoted as though it is.
Tell us what else is happening and when. If the surround is being resurfaced or the deck is being rebuilt, the order those things happen in changes what we can fix into and when we should be on site.
Canal and lake, and why it matters
Mermaid Waters has both tidal canals and freshwater lakes, and they are genuinely different environments for hardware.
Tidal canal frontage carries salt and needs a marine grade fitting. A property on one of the lakes, away from the tidal system, has a much gentler environment and does not need the same specification.
We look at your address rather than applying one answer to the whole suburb. On a lake front block that can mean a lower spend on hardware than you were expecting, and we would rather tell you that than take the money.
The honest conversation about budget
Mermaid Waters is a more mixed suburb than the waterfront pockets to the north, and not every job here is a job for frameless.
If your fence runs down a side boundary you never look at, frameless is not the right spend and we will say so. If it runs across the view from the back of the house to the water, it is, and the difference is obvious the day it goes in.
We are not going to talk you into the premium option on a run where it earns nothing.
More than fences
Renovations here often come with a deck or an upper balcony, which means balustrades in the same conversation
Typical jobs in Mermaid Waters
Renovation packages. Fence, deck balustrade and sometimes internal stair glass, all part of a bigger job.
Fence replacement. Aluminium or early glass coming out of an established backyard.
Lake front runs. Gentler on hardware than the tidal canals, and often a better spend on the glass instead.
Side boundary runs. Where we will often tell you frameless is not the right call.
Sequencing with your other trades
Because so much of the work here is part of a renovation, the order things happen in matters more than the fence itself.
Glass fixes into the finished surface. If the surround is being resurfaced, the deck rebuilt or the coping replaced, we come after all of it. If we go in before, the fence has to come out again and that is nobody’s idea of value.

Frequently asked questions
Should I fence before or after the landscaping?
Generally after the hard surfaces are finished and before the planting goes in. Spigots fix into the finished surface, so if the surround is being resurfaced we need to be after that. We will sequence it with you at the quote.
Do I need marine grade fittings on a lake front block?
Usually not to the same level as a tidal canal address. The lakes are a gentler environment. We specify to the address rather than the suburb.
Is frameless glass always worth it?
No, and we will tell you when it is not. On a side boundary run that nobody looks at, the extra spend is hard to justify. Where the fence sits in the view from the house, it is the whole point.
