Pool fencing

Glass pool fencing in Surfers Paradise

One Gold Coast team. Ten years. Over 3,000 jobs.

You’ve spent a fortune on the pool, the paving and the outlook. The last thing you want is a fence you have to look at.

That is what Todd Mehlhopt built Gurus of Glass around in 2015. Frameless glass, done properly, so the barrier all but disappears and the whole yard opens up as one space.

Clean lines, 12mm toughened glass, polished edges, nothing there to catch your eye.

We are a Gold Coast business and only a Gold Coast business. Todd quotes your job himself and the same team installs it, start to finish.

The premium work is on the islands

Surfers Paradise covers a lot of ground and most of it is towers. The residential pool fencing work sits in the island pockets, on the canal blocks around the Isle of Capri and Chevron Island where the houses have backyards, pools and water frontage.

Those are the jobs we do here. Canal front homes, often being renovated, where the pool sits between the house and the water and the fence is directly in the view from the living area.

Access decides the day

Nowhere else on the coast do we spend as much time thinking about getting glass to the backyard.

Blocks are tight, street frontages are narrow, on street parking is limited and side access is often nonexistent. A 12mm panel two metres wide is heavy and it does not bend around a corner.

None of that stops the job. It changes the plan and it changes the timing, and it needs to be on the quote rather than discovered on install morning. We look at it at the measure.

Canal frontage and older surrounds

The island homes here have been around a while and many have been renovated more than once. The pool is frequently original even when the house is not.

That means the surround has history. Paved over, cut into for plumbing, patched, or built up so the levels no longer read the way the pool builder intended. Before we quote, we check what a spigot is actually going into, because on a retrofit the surface you can see is rarely the whole story.

Canal frontage here is tidal, so fittings need a genuine marine grade. It is not Main Beach or open Broadwater exposure, but it is not inland either.

The view is the point

An Isle of Capri backyard is a pool, a lawn and the water. Put a powder coated aluminium fence across that and you have divided it into two smaller spaces and blocked the thing the property is worth money for.

That is the argument for glass on almost every job in this suburb.

Typical jobs in Surfers Paradise

Isle of Capri canal homes. The core of our work here. Pool between the house and the water, fence directly in the view from the living area.

Chevron Island renovations. Smaller blocks, tighter access, and pools that are often original to houses that are not.

Budds Beach and the river pockets. Older homes on the Nerang River side, frequently mid renovation.

Unit and townhouse balustrades. Balcony and common area glass in the low rise buildings on the islands

Renovating? Timing matters here

On a tight block the order of trades decides whether your job runs smoothly or badly. Glass fixes into the finished surface, so we come after the concreting, paving or decking, and ideally before the planting.

Tell us what else is booked and when. On the islands, where there is often nowhere to store materials and nowhere to park, sequencing is worth more than speed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you install if there is no side access to my backyard?

Yes. It is common on the islands and we plan for it. Panels come through the house with proper protection. We check access at the measure so it is in the quote, not a surprise.

Yes, that is where most of our Surfers Paradise work sits. Canal frontage means marine grade fittings, specified to the address.

Not usually, but it changes the fixing. Spigots need something solid underneath, and pavers over sand are not that. We check what is actually under the surface before quoting rather than on the day.
