A suburb replacing its fences
Broadbeach Waters has one of the highest pool densities on the Gold Coast, and most of those pools went in decades ago.
Which means the work here is overwhelmingly replacement. Old aluminium, old tubular, and a lot of early glass installations where the fittings have gone but the glass is still perfect.
That is the job in this suburb. Not fencing new pools, but taking out something that has done twenty years and putting in something that makes the backyard read the way it should have all along.
Wide blocks, long runs, real gains
The canal blocks here are wide, and the pool usually sits between the house and the water on a generous flat surround.
That is close to the ideal frameless job. Long straight runs on sound concrete, minimal fall, and a view worth protecting. It is also where the difference between glass and aluminium is most obvious, because you are looking down the length of the yard to the canal from inside the house.
Long runs do bring their own care. Setting out has to be right across the whole length, and low iron glass is worth considering where the fence sits in the main sightline.
What twenty year old surrounds hide
Replacement work is where the surprises live.
Old surrounds have been patched, repaved, cut into for pool plumbing and sometimes built up around the edges. Concrete from the seventies and eighties can have movement in it. Spigots need something sound to fix into and the surface you can see is not always the story.
We check that at the measure, before we quote. If your surround needs work it is priced up front rather than raised on install day when the glass is already made.
Canal salt, not beach salt
Broadbeach Waters is on the canal system, not the beachfront. Tidal water means genuine salt in the air, so fittings need a proper marine grade, but the exposure is milder than an ocean front address.
We specify to the address. A house directly on the water gets a different answer to one two streets in.
Typical jobs in Broadbeach Waters
Straight replacement. Old aluminium or tubular out, frameless glass in, same footprint. The most common job in the suburb.
Fittings only. Where an earlier glass fence has sound panels but corroded spigots. Much smaller job, and worth asking about before you pay for a full replacement.
Knockdown rebuilds. New house on an old canal block, where we work to the builder’s program.
Pool renovation packages. New surround, new coping, new fence, all in one go, which is the cleanest way to do it because we fix into a finished surface.
The advantage of a wide flat block
Broadbeach Waters gives us close to ideal conditions. Flat surrounds, long uninterrupted runs and a straight view down the yard to the water.
That means fewer steps, fewer corners, fewer gates and less hardware than a sloping or awkward site, which shows up in the price per metre. It also means the finish is unforgiving. On a long straight run there is nothing to distract the eye from a panel that is not quite true, so setting out is where the time goes.

Frequently asked questions
Can you reuse my existing glass and just replace the fittings?
Sometimes, and it is worth asking. If the panels are sound and the sizes still work, replacing corroded spigots is a much smaller job than a new fence. We will tell you honestly at the measure which one you are looking at.
How old is too old for a pool surround?
Age is not the issue, condition is. Seventies and eighties concrete can be perfectly sound or it can have movement. We check before quoting rather than after.
Is a long straight run more expensive per metre?
Usually slightly less per metre than a short run with multiple gates and corners, because gates and corners are where the hardware cost sits. The setting out takes longer, though, and it has to be right.
