The cheapest fence is rarely the cheapest decision
Most people get three quotes for pool fencing and all three come back as powder coated aluminium, because that is the default.
It works. It will pass. It is also a visual wall between your back door and everything behind it, and on a canal block or a home built around a hinterland outlook that is a real cost that never appears on the invoice. It is why so many finished backyards still feel like two separate spaces.
Worth being blunt about it before you sign anything, because once the posts are in the ground you live with the decision for fifteen years.
The three options, honestly
Glass. The most expensive per metre and the reason most people are reading this. You look through it, so the pool, the lawn and whatever is behind them stay in one frame. Glass does not corrode, does not need painting and does not fade. It needs cleaning, and near the water the hardware needs rinsing (links to /glass-pool-fencing).
Aluminium. The default. Powder coated, cheap, quick, off the shelf. It will last and it will pass. Near salt air the powder coating chalks and fades over time, and it puts vertical bars across whatever is behind it. If the fence runs down a side boundary you never look at, this is the sensible spend and we will tell you so.
Tubular steel. Cheaper again and heavier. Generally used where nobody is looking. On the coast it rusts at the welds eventually.
The honest summary: if the fence sits in the view you paid for, glass is the only one of the three that does not undo the thing you were trying to achieve.

Worth saying plainly so you’re not wasting an afternoon. What we specialise in is frameless glass, not tubular steel or anything with a post between every panel.

What pool fencing costs
Two quotes can use the same words and mean very different things, so here is what actually moves the number.
- Length of the run. A short run with two gates can cost more than a long run with one.
- Material, and for glass, the glass and hardware specification.
- What you are fixing into. Concrete is the straightforward one. Pavers, tile, timber decking and retaining walls all add work.
- Fall across the site. A slope means stepping the panels, which means more panels and more spigots.
- Gates. Every gate is hardware, and hardware is where the cost sits.
- Access. A backyard reachable only through the house is a different job to one with side access.
We publish an indicative per metre range with the exclusions written down, so you can hold any quote up against it, ours included.
What happens next

The quote. Written and itemised. If your site needs prep work it is priced before you sign, not after.
The build. About two weeks from signing to a finished fence, with the install itself usually a single day.

Is glass pool fencing worth the extra cost over aluminium?
It depends entirely on where the fence sits. If it runs through your outlook from the house or the deck, glass is the only option that does not cancel out the view you paid for. If it runs down a side boundary you never look at, the extra spend is hard to justify and we will say so.
What are the pool fence rules in Queensland?
A barrier must be at least 1200mm high from the outside ground level, have no gaps over 100mm underneath or between vertical members, keep a 900mm non-climbable zone clear, and have a gate that swings away from the pool and self closes and self latches from any position. Every fence we install meets this, whatever material it is made from.
Do I need a pool safety certificate?
You need a valid certificate if you sell or lease the property, and it is issued by a licensed pool safety inspector after they inspect the barrier. Installing a compliant fence and certifying it are two separate steps done by two different licence holders. You will receive a Form 15 compliance certificate from us on completion, which covers our work.
Can you fence an existing pool or only a new one?
Both. A good share of our work is replacing an aluminium or tubular fence around a pool that has been there twenty years. Retrofits sometimes turn up surprises in the surround, which is why we measure on site before quoting rather than after.
